BC Community Ski Hills: Mt Timothy to Open, Phoenix Mountain Delays

by

British Columbia is home to some great little community ski hills. Two BC local hills have updated their opening plans this week. Mt Timothy opens Friday while Phoenix Mountain will delay, waiting on more snow.

Phoenix Mountain Needs More Snow

Phoenix Mountain, “The Best Little Mountain in BC!!” has announced on Facebook that they will delay at least another week, waiting on more snow. WinterReview caught up via email with Ciel Sander, Vice President of Phoenix Mountain Alpine Ski Society who put the situation simply, “We need precip and cold”. Ciel says that what started out as a good base has been withered away by high winds and super cold temps. Luckily, Phoenix Mountain will get cold temps this week with highs below freezing forecast for the next 10 days. Snow is also forecast for Dec 19th and 20th and again on the 23rd.

Mt Timothy Ready to Shred

Over 300 miles to the north, another Canadian community ski hill is ready to open. Mt Timothy Ski Area has already announced a December 16th opening. Events coordinator Morgan Day stated in a December 8th YouTube ‘On Mountain Report’ that there is a base of 50 cm at mid mountain. WinterReview caught up with Morgan today in an email. He says, “I’m super stoked for opening weekend! We’re looking forward to having the lifts spinning and seeing everyone shred!”

Mt Timothy has embraced YouTube and Facebook videos as a great way of communicating with skiers and riders. Morgan posted their first Mt Timothy vLoG yesterday and says that we’ll see “a lot more of a social media presence than ever before, I’m stoked about that. I love connecting with all the skiers and riders out there.” Day says he has a lot of fun making the videos and that he “really does believe it gets everyone more stoked to be up here and enhances the atmosphere on the hill.” Visit Mt Timothy on YouTube for more vLoGs and On Mountain Reports.

Phoenix Mountain and Mt Timothy are both members of the Mountain Playground Group. Holders of the group’s Mountain Playground Card receive 2 for 1 midweek at Mt Timothy and 2 for 1 Fridays at Phoenix Mountain. So, grab a friend and spend some time at two great British Columbia community ski hills!
