Enchanted Forest Cross Country Open for Season
Enchanted Forest Cross Country Ski and Snowshoe Area in Red River, NM announced this morning that they are 100% open for the season.
EFXC was looking for more snow to officially open. When WinterReview spoke with owner Geoff Goins earlier this week on Dec 12th he said, “We still need a good 6 inches of snow. I have opened on a limited basis with this small amount, but it ain’t pretty. We will wait.”
Geoff and the fans of Enchanted Forest were hoping for just a few more inches of snow, and they got it. The Winter weather that is currently moving through the southwest has delivered over 8 inches of new snow to the Red River, NM area. According to their website, it’s still snowing. Along with enough snow to open, the town of Red River has had power outages. The Enchanted Forest Cross Country home page encourages guests to call ahead at 575-754-6112 for road conditions and trail status.
Enchanted Forest Cross Country Ski and Snowshoe Area is an independent, family owned ski area in Red River, NM. They offer 33km of groomed trails for classic and skate style skiing, 15km of snowshoe trails and 5km of dedicated dog trails. There are also two trailside yurts that adventurous skiers can rent for overnight ski in/ski out stays.
The owners announced last spring that the ski area is for sale and the asking price has recently been reduced. EFXC is a piece of New Mexico ski history and owners Geoff Goins and Ellen Miller-Goins say that they hope they can find buyer that is “as enchanted by it as we were.”
