Anthony Lakes Mountain Resort Overview
Anthony Lakes Mountain Resort is a Winter recreation area located in eastern Oregon. Anthony Lakes offers lift served skiing, snowboarding, Nordic skiing, backcountry skiing, cat skiing and yurt camping.
Anthony Lakes describes itself as “A down-home, family-friendly Winter playground”. This area is more than just skiing and riding. This down-home area also offers cat skiing, over 30km of groomed Nordic trails and our favorite, Yurts!
History of Anthony Lakes
The area of Powder Lakes, now known as Anthony Lakes, gained notoriety in the 1940s. Adventurous spirits from nearby Baker Valley and all over the West would frequent the backcountry and it’s secret powder stashes. The Anthony Lakes Playground Association and Evergreen Ski Club were formed but after WWII the volunteer groups were not able to keep the area open.
In 1962 the area got a boost in the form of Governor Hatfield who agreed to plow the road with state plows if the ski area could get off the ground. By 1965 a 20 year permit was issued and by 1967 the day lodge and chairlift were completed.
Today, Anthony Lakes is known as “The Friendliest Little Ski Area in America”.
