Hurricane Ridge Overview

Hurricane Ridge Winter Sports Area is a family oriented, community run recreation area located inside Olympic National Park, WA. Hurricane is one of only three lift served ski areas remaining on National Parks and has a rich history of community involvement.

The Ridge has a unique location. The area enjoys being the western most ski area in America and boasts surf to ski recreation in just 17 miles! This family oriented ski area has terrain for younger skiers and beginners. The seasoned adventurer will find the steeps, glades and bowls well worth the hiking effort. What’s more, Hurricane Ridge offers access to the backcountry of Olympic National Park.

Skiers and riders at Hurricane Ridge enjoy the low costs and smaller crowds that come along with community ski hills. The area is operated by the Hurricane Ridge Winter Sports Club. Every season pass holder becomes a member of the club and many non-skiers purchase social memberships to support the historic area.

“We are a group of highly motivated individuals dedicated to keeping lift served winter recreation alive and affordable in Olympic National Park.” ~ HRWSC

Rich in Ski History

Hurricane Ridge opened on January 1st, 1958. Thanks to a 1950s road project by the National Park Service the ski area was moved from Deer Park on Blue Mountain to Hurricane Ridge. Two rope tows were moved over and those engines are still in use today. In 1971 the Poma lift was added. Skiers enjoyed a much improved road, better snow and slopes but lost the overnight lodging and nostalgia of Deer Park. As they near 60 years of history at Hurricane Ridge, we think that skiing in Olympic National Park is as nostalgic as it gets!
