Bald Mountain Ski Area
Bald Mountain Ski Area Overview
Bald Mountain is a small community run ski area in the Clearwater Mountains of Idaho. This “throwback” ski area is managed by the Clearwater Ski Club. One T-bar lift and one rope tow service a variety of terrain. General Manger Chris Allen says that at Bald Mountain you get all the terrain of bigger mountains, just smaller.
Community is what it’s all about at Bald Mountain. A free shuttle runs from nearby Orofino and 5th graders ski free all season, 6th graders ski free three times a season with an Idaho Ski Areas Association Ski Passport of just $15. The ski hill is open on weekends only, biscuits and gravy are served in the lodge in the mornings and the Board President can be found skiing every weekend.
Affectionately known as the “Best Little Ski Hill in Idaho”, Bald Mountain is family skiing the way it used to be.
Bald Mountain relies on many volunteers, fund raising and donations to operate. Support this community run gem by visiting and shelling out $20 for a lift ticket and the grinniest (yep, that’s a lot of smiles people) day of skiing you’ve had in a while. Also consider visiting the link on their homepage to donate to help keep this community gem around for future generations.

This “little” ski hill was just the perfect match for my family! We loaded up our car for a great drive there! It was a perfect place for my child to learn to down hill ski! The people were friendly, the atmosphere warm and inviting, the instructors stellar and the hill had plenty to offer! We will be back for sure! Thanks to Chris, John, Kathryn, Brian and all the great people help run this place! Were so happy we found you!
Thank you for sharing Laura! Bald Mountain has been my favorite ski area to write about and I haven’t even skied there yet! Community ski areas are so important to families and I appreciate you taking the time to share your experience on WinterReview!!
